Hi, I'm a practicing Pagan who has had some varying success with pendulum dowsing , but very limited use outdoors.
I am from South Central Ontario, Canada
I would like to find out more about all types of dowsing. I may lurk for a while to see what type of conversations you have generally going on here, but I may pipe up and ask questions sooner than even I expect.

Hi K,
No formal religion, mystic cultural background or tradition is needed to dowse.
However being tranquil and feeling as if your connected with a deep appreciation for nature and all life seems to be a common thread among most dowsers.
My particular style of dowsing only requires a pen, it's called Pensweep all other's are listed. I like to experiment and practice daily, 97 % of my sessions are done at distant locations 100's to 1000's of miles away. If you would like to Try a long distance experiment yourself any on line buddy will do in an IM. Have them get 4 beads or anything solid of 4 different colors, you write them down, and see how many times you can select the correct one out of 4, then try selecting what 2 of 4 colors are in there hand each round, don't let distance disturb your confidence they could be sitting next to you, it would be the same outcome percentage wise. See how well you do this and rate your own average accuracy at a distance, then have your on-line buddy try, this is a simple practice will motivate any half interested partner to look deeper into dowsing and try it for them self's.
Dowsing is similar to any fighting art, mentally to be good you have to master the basic's which requires daily repetition and practice. Then you become fluid enough to carry out each new individual technique learned fluidly applying those correctly, instinctively overcoming the majority of mental hurtles your presented with, within each new target. The final ingredient is accurate and pinpoint strikes coming more and more naturally every time you mentally spar with a new target, after you've honed the first 2 stages. Becoming a completely rounded and skilled technician and having great nerve signal is what separates those who are average from those who are the good, thru their focused, controlled, instinctive and deadly accuracy having the ability to take on any target.
